Nursery Lunches

At Blue Sky mealtimes are social occasions where the children sit together to eat. All meals are freshly prepared each day by our nursery cook and we aim to provide a healthy balanced diet with strong emphasis on fruit and vegetables.

During the day we offer the following meals:

  • Breakfast between 8:00 – 8:30
  • Morning snack
  • Lunch from 11:45
  • Afternoon snack
  • tea at 16:00

Children have free access to water throughout the day and are offered milk as an alternative at each meal.

We have seasonal menus which operate on a five-weekly rotation.

Health Pack Ups Guidelines

Pack ups, while a parent’s choice and responsibility, should help promote a healthy balanced diet and as such the following rules apply:

  • All meals which should be provided in a named cool bag with a cool block (we do not have fridge space available to store pack up bags)
  • Each meal must be separately packed, and each pack must clearly state which meal in within (the team cannot take time to determine which pack to give the children at each meal)
  • There should be no hot/warm food or food which requires heating (due to environmental health issues)

Each meal has its own set of requirements, which are listed below:

MealCan IncludeMust NOT Include
BreakfastCornflakesRice KrispiesWeetabixWhole meal bread
LunchProtein (meat or cheese)Carbohydrates (rice, pasta, potatoes or whole meal bread), FruitSalad or vegetables
TeaCarbohydrates (rice, pasta, potatoes or whole meal bread), Fruit Salad or vegetablesProtein or Dairy (egg, cheese or meats due to environmental restrictions)

Nursery will provide milk for cereal and to drink along with water through the day

Pack Ups Must NOT Include

These pack ups must not contain crisps, juice, pop, sweets, chocolate or other high salt or sugar level elements to keep in line with the nursery’s healthy eating program.

NO NUTS AT ALL, OR TRACES OF NUTS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES

If we find nuts or traces of nuts in any of the food items supplied the result will be that the child is immediately switched to the consumables contract from that date.

Why Pack Ups Have Requirements

The insulated bags and ice packs are imperative for keeping the food to a sufficiently cold standard to ensure the children do not get food poisoning!

We at Blue Sky take the food hygiene standards very seriously and at the present have a grade 5 rating.

Forgetting Your Consumables

All consumables on the list must be provided for each session.

If a parent forgets to include all items or does not supply the food items in an insulated bag/box with frozen ice packs no child will be expected to miss out instead the standard consumables charge will be applied for their session.

As it is not realistic for the childcare team to act as consumables monitor on an ongoing basis we will need to transfer parents across onto the consumables contract after the second incident of a consumable item being forgotten.
